Cutting Down on Packaging!

Some objects have a very short lifetime: this is the case of packaging which ends up in the rubbish bin as soon as we get home from doing the shopping. The first rule to eliminate waste is… to produce less! How can we do this? Firstly, companies must reduce the number, weight and volume of their packaging. Some progress has been made. Do you remember how difficult it was, a few years ago, to crush an aluminium can or a plastic bottle? But we, as consumers, can also do our part.
For example: we can buy loose goods, without packaging, or we can reuse containers and bottles (refilling them several times -with detergent, oil, wine, milk or other foodstuffs from either the distribution machines where they are “on draught” or buying refills). We can eat seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables, and we can drink tap water. And we must not forget to use rechargeable batteries and non-disposable cloth, jute shopping bags. These are some small, simple actions that can go a long way to contributing to the protection of our environment.

Solution
There are 45 containers in all: 20 silver paper wrappings and 20 sachets for each chocolate, 4 boxes containing the different groups of 5 chocolates, and the chocolate box itself containing them all. 20 + 20 + 4 + 1 = 45
Therefore, the right answer is 44, because only 1 container (the box itself, the outer packaging) can be considered indispensable; the others are not of any use…
