Virtual Water
Do you know what “virtual water” is? Certainly, it's not what one finds in our barman's empty glass!
But joking aside, virtual water is actually a serious matter! Let’s discover why.
To answer our question, we are offering you three explanations, but only one is correct. Which one?
1.
Virtual water is the quantity of drinking water which, according to economic, social,
human and climatic parameters, is sufficient in each geographic area to guarantee the survival and daily management of life and human activities;
2.
Virtual water is the quantity of fresh water present
on our planet in a solid state (i.e. glaciers and the polar ice caps) and, therefore, not available for consumption;
3.
Virtual water is the quantity of water that has been used throughout the entire life cycle of any product
(for example, the water required to produce a soda, a steak, a pair of shoes).
